Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting – Malta 2015
In November 2015, Malta will host the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting for the second time after a successful event in 2005. The smallest country in the Europe Union and the smallest state in the Mediterranean Sea, The Maltese Islands have served throughout the course of history as a link between North Africa and Europe. Malta, The CHOGM host for 2015, will provide a platform Commonwealth countries to meet and together discuss strategies of collaboration.
The Commonwealth is composed of a group of 53 independents states. The voluntary group formed in 1949, following the decolonisation of the British Empire. The Commonwealth is headed by HM Queen Elizabeth II, who will be attending the events held throughout Malta in November. The association is a voice for 2.2 billion people and includes some of the World’s richest, smallest and poorest nations. The countries that form part of the Commonwealth have no legal obligation to eachother but are all guides by principals within The Charter of the Commonwealth. These include: human rights, the rile of law and democracy.
